Well…there are quite a few practical reasons why you might want to shave your hair. In fact, I guess most of the characters who sport that sort of look in sports manga/anime do so simply to save the time and effort of washing and drying their hair after training, and that sort of establishes them as practical-minded characters bereft of vanity.
And of course, nanti riah can be a valid fashion choice for people who are into that look.
But there are some disadvantages to it, as well…and here Gregory experiences a pretty obvious one: if you’ve already shaved your head on general principle, you’ve got no hair left to shave off in shame over something that’s bad enough to require you to do so. Then you’ll have to find some other way of hair-do based self-humiliation, and that might not look very pretty. Although it might look very funny…and I think the clown hair is a step into that direction, although I feel that Gregory isn’t really bringing the right attitude to the table. He should perhaps go full clown, then he could laugh the whole humiliation off.
