Alan Ladd
I admit that Ladd is an exception to the general rule of that day. He was so much in demand for his unique combination of gruffness and attractiveness, and his great voice, that directors went far out of their way to accomodate his small stature. He often played scenes standing on a box, and when he was depicted walking alongside his leading lady, she was actually walking along a shallow trench that had been dug for that purpose. |
