And another masterfully subtle performance by the Professor, leaving the audience completely hanging in the air! There is just absolutely no way to tell whether El Lightning and Father Captain will be showing up in this chapter, at this moment.
Well, save for the fact that they have been mentioned, so naturally they’ll be featuring. >_> B-movies don’t bother to mention characters if they play no role in the plot, completely regardless of their importance in the prequel. When they’re gone, they’re gone, and none of the other characters (including friends, lovers, spouses) will notice their absence. It’s like ‘never say die’ - if you don’t mention the characters, the audience will never notice that large, character-shaped hole in the plot. (Also known as plot-induced-selective-amnesia or Picard’s disease after Captain Jean-Luc Picard, who often had to solve problems without the help of the obviously most-qualified crewmember. Despite the fact that said missing characters could hardly be physically out of reach due to the ship-board setting, neither Picard nor any of the other present characters seemed to be able to remember the missing ones at all - or even just happen to bump into them in the hallway.)
So yeah, no use trying to deny it - El Lightning and Father John will play a role in this chapter and their disappearance is obviously connected to the events unfolding, even if there seems to be no way they could. Well, save for the obvious way - via the mysterious mastermind who showed up at the end of the last chapter.
More on Thursday.
