| Comment: In real life, there is no Royal Egyptological Society, which is rather surprising, given the abundance of Royal Societies for other, lesser, branches of knowledge: List of Royal Societies If there was one, however, I am pretty sure its greeting ritual would be similiar to the one depicted here, based on two aspects: 1. Spending one's life within the protection of an academic enviroment enables many scientists to conserve a bit of the child in them into surprisingly advanced age. 2. Royal <insert noun here> Societies tend to have a lot of strange, outdated rituals associated with them, partly due to their long tradition, partly due to the fact that Britons think embarassing themselves in front of their peers strengthens esprit dÈ corps. If anyone is able to recognize all the songs behind my garbled lyrics, drop me a line and you'll get a written confirmation (by me, which makes it worthless) that you know a lot of old songs, indeed. |
